Re: Anyone looking for a KX1?

Thanks Thomas and it did find a new home quickly.

I quite liked the KX1, but I am just being pragmatic about all of the stuff on the shelf. I figured it was time to let someone else check it out.

Anyone looking for a KX1?

I have a three band KX1 with tuner that I have enjoyed for the last couple of years, but I am not really using it and I am not trying to be a collector. When I got this one, the three blue buttons were faltering, and I was able to figure out what they are through Elecraft, source them and replace th...

Re: Another new to me rig: Mission RGO One

Very nice. The radio certainly does shine for CW, which is my primary mode. That said, just to test it out I made some SSB contacts with excellent audio and signal repots. It is not going to replace my K3 at home, but I think it is going to be a great table top portable for parks or on the sail boat.

Another new to me rig: Mission RGO One

I just acquired this RGO One yesterday from K1EY who acquired it from N0SA when it was highlighted on QRPer last spring. I have only had time to configure and test in the shack, but it has the most current firmware and is in great shape. I have not cracked the lid to see what is inside, but it has t...

Re: Hi I'm new - some QRP questions

First off, congrats on getting your General. I am still fairly new to the hobby with barely four years in and think I have some experience that may overlap with your interests. 1. No need to have a shack at home, though it can be a nice option to have something available when time or weather don't a...

Re: New ham interested in CW

On radios options to get started with. Certainly a KX2 or KX3 is a great option, but as you said they are hard to come by used and expensive either way. If it were me and I was looking thinking CW and QRP as a goal, I would be very happy with my Penntek TR-35 and the TR-45L is a another option to co...

Re: New ham interested in CW

If I get a tuner, which one would you suggest? A couple of good options for QRP rigs: Manual option and relatively inexpensive: Emtech ZM-2 you can get them as kits or built. Works very well to 15W Auto option - Elecraft T1. Quite a bit more costly, but a fantastic tuner and very fast. 20W max. I h...

Re: Key for mobile CW?

Lots of great options available. I really like the Bamatech TP-III with that specific application in mind, but you could make just about any portable paddle work. An EFHW should be fine so long as you know and operate where the antenna is going to have low enough SWR. There may be some variability depending on deployment, but if you keep things similar it is unlikely to be a severe difference.
