Re: New ham interested in CW

The EFHW Kit from KM4ACK is a great option for that reason, all the parts you need are included and it takes maybe an hour to assemble. Make it the day it arrives. If you don't want a tuner, you might consider buying or making a linked dipole. If you build it, you can make each section to have max r...

Re: New ham interested in CW

Another plug for KM4ACK kit. Packtenna stuff is nicely made, just just have to catch them when available. For other fully assembled options, check out N9SAB's ebay store. Tim makes some really nice antennas. His stock varies, so what you may see on there today is not all he makes. I have a few of hi...

Re: New ham interested in CW

I would also add checking out Long Island CW Club to the mix of great offering for learning. https://longislandcwclub.org/ I like LICW because, while the courses have rotating starts, you can readily join at sit in any class at anytime. For my busy schedule, being able to pop in an out when I was ab...

Re: Looking good

Thanks. I forgot I had one of these prior to your post, and I have it back in the kit now.

Re: CW Morse SP4 paddle

I have had a couple of additional outings with mine since my first SOTA/POTA use. I tend to dual lock my paddles to a small clipboard, and with that setup the CW Morse N0SA has worked flawlessly for me. On my last outing I went as light as possible and held the paddle for the activation. With gloves...

Re: CW Morse SP4 paddle

I used mine for a quick SOTA/POTA activation today and it performed like a champ. Very pleased with it.

CW Morse SP4 paddle

The CW Morse SP4 arrived today and I put them through their paces here at the shack. Excellent implementation of the N0SA design. Very light and well made. I left a comment to this effect in the QRPer posting on this, but I think these have the potential to become the new standard. These compare fav...

Re: Choosing battery size

I think either would work if you are thinking for QRP. A 3Ah Bioenno will run my KX2 at 5W for 3-4 sessions of CW in the 60-90 minute range. It might handle a 5th session, but I have always recharged before then out of habit. For a single QRP session of 2-3 hours I think 2Ah would be more than adequ...

Re: MTR4B V2 lack of receive volume

I think I solved my MTR volume issue. I set out to test different headphones at home the next day, and when I went to turn on the radio I only got a lit display. There was no text and the unit did not initialize. At first I wondered if I had a hardware failure that was contributing to the sound issu...

MTR4B V2 lack of receive volume

Seeing the video Thomas did recently on the MTR4B V2 reminded me to refresh myself with using mine. It had been since early summer when it last had any exercise. I don't recall having any issue my first couple of uses, but yesterday I could barely hear many stations calling me. I happened to have my...
