Re: POTAPlus Chrome Browser Extension

I finally had a chance to check this out. At first I was a little unsure about what it was doing, but once I got everything setup (there is not much you need to do), I saw the usefulness of it. In addition to alerts, I like that it also shows you QSO total with an activator or park and the direct RB...

Re: POTA on 30M?

Update from IARU! As I mentioned, I sent an email to IARU seeking clarification on this. I got a prompt and helpful response from Joel W5ZN, IARU Secretary. For complete transparency, I am going to post all messages in order below, but the short answer is: POTA/SOTA may be viewed as a parallel to e...

Re: POTA on 30M?

I have an email to IARU asking if they have weighed in on this topic. I will be sure to share if I get a response. One thing I noted in searching the IARU site, was how they define a contest: Contesting consists of making the maximum number of contacts with other radio amateurs in a defined time. Th...

Re: POTA on 30M?

Thanks for the thoughts on this so far. Skip, your point/question is one I have seen elsewhere and why I was trying to understand this better. While POTA is not a contest in the traditional sense, it has similar elements and was not the intent of the WARC rule to prevent overloading relatively small...

POTA on 30M?

Where do people stand on POTA using 30M or other WARC bands that have the rule " Contest activity shall not take place on the 10, 18, and 24 MHz bands? " I have hunted park activators on 30M and always feel a little awkward, knowing some say it is fine and others are dead against. Today I ...

Re: What QRP Rigs do you have, and how do you use them?

Right now I have a MTR-4B V2, TR-35, KX1, KX2 & KX3. Paired with them I have about a dozen antennas that I experiment with. Most of those are homemade dipoles, linked dipoles and EFHW, but I do have a four from commercial makers. I usually don't need an external tuner, but when I do I use a T1 o...

Re: TR-35 group/forum

I have only briefly used a Palm Pico, so I don't think I can comment with any accuracy. The AME Ultra Porta Paddle (note Porta Paddle is different model) is a very nice paddle with magnetic return with good adjustability on the spacing and magnets. It should be noted that the forward adjustment scre...

Re: POTA & FT8 Data

If you decided to give CW a go, also have a look at the Long Island CW Club. https://longislandcwclub.org/

I never thought I would learn CW, and while I am still honing the skill (one probably always is) it quickly became my favorite mode.

Re: Question for FT-891 users

Thanks for that input. I think I have decided that the 891 is not a good fit for me. I am going to find it a new home, and if I get 100W itch for POTAI will get a KXPA100 for the KX3 or KX2. I think I am most happy when doing CW at 5-10W, so more power is probably not worth the effort or expense for...

Re: POTA & FT8 Data

Ditto to considering CW. I thought I would never learn it, and now it is 95% of what I do on air. You just have to commit to it and practice a little every day. The learning curve is steep at first, but progressively eases into a long slow climb of improving comprehension and speed. CW makes an exce...
