Windcamp battery for Yaesu FT-817/818?
I would like to know more about the Windcamp battery pack for the Yaesu FT-817. The stock battery in my FT-817 did not have enough power to be useful, except for short periods of listening. How long does the Windcamp pack last under normal use? Is it sufficient for a 3-hour POTA activation? Is it wo...

Re: Magloop Bands
Those loops are awesome, but probably more than my wife will allow in our yard! I'm really just curious how the commercial loops are able to cover more bands than the magloop calculators say is possible - do they come with different radiator loops for the high/low bands, or do they just overcome the...

Re: New QRP Labs Radio - QMX
I still have a QCX-mini and a QDX to build, so the QMX-hi should be out long before I'm ready to get it!

Re: Why so few "random" wire antennas ?
It depends on which radio/gear I'm using. My KX1 has an ATU, so no issue with a random wire, but my FT817 doesn't have an ATU (I have a T1, but that's another piece of equipment and two more coax cables) so I like the EFHW for that. My next antenna will be a 40-10 EFHW with links for 17 and 30m. 73,...

Re: New QRP Labs Radio - QMX
My timing isn't that great - my QCX-mini kit arrived last week! I'm hoping that Hans makes a high band (20-17-15-12-10) version too.

Magloop Bands
I just built a magloop antenna with a 10 foot RG-213 radiating loop and a 2 foot 12 gauge coupling loop. The tuning capacitor is spec'ed for 4 - 90 pf (it's actually a dual section 8 - 180 pf capacitor, but I wired it in series to handle 5w). According to 66pacific.com and my testing, it can be tune...
