Re: LiPo Batteries - XT and RC types
I thought about it, but went with Li-ion instead. I can get 3 Ah out of a little holder that's about the same size as a 3-pack of AA batteries, which is good enough for my little SW-3B rig. IMG_2810 (Small).jpeg I guess all batteries with Li chemistry have special handling requirements, but Li-Po on...

Re: POTA & FT8 Data
Ditto on the congrats. I retired in 2016, so I'm an old (literally) hand on how to be retired. :D And have fun getting into ham radio. I'm sure you'll love it. Remember, for FT8 you'll need not only the radio, antenna, power supply, etc., but also a computer of some sort and a way to connect the rad...

Re: Random wire antenna
Great summary, Andrew. Thanks. For those interested in an off-the-shelf tuner (rather than building one from an online design), I tune up my Tufteln random wire antenna (the same antenna featured by Thomas in his activation of Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area (VE-0012)) using a little MFJ-9201 Q...

Re: Is the X6100 a keeper?
Has anyone seen the QRPer blog this morning about the performance of the 6100 ? Ira KB2DJJ Yup. I've been thinking about getting a 6100 for the same reason expressed above: the Linux core and the prospect of enhancements makes this a potentially great FUTURE radio. Unfortunately, the video confirme...

Re: Importing Pictures
If you're using Windows, there's still an option derived from the old Windows "Power Toys." It adds an option so that when you right click on an image, you can choose "resize image" into any of several different sizes. Information and the download is here: https://www.bricelam.ne...

Re: Frequency Agile Antennas
My mobile setup is based around hamsticks. I have tuned them mounted on both a tripod and a stake mount using three 33' radials. I marked the steel whip part with a permanent marker to show the resonant point of the whips for each hamstick. So when portable I setup the band I want to use and adjust...

Re: Just got an SW-3B. Any advice ?
Thanks again to everyone commenting on the SW-3b. Very helpful info on LiFePO4 batteries. I'll have fun putting together my own go bag. Skip K4EAK, a question on the pico keyer....how does it interface to the SW-3b? How does it "override" the SW-3b keyer speed? Does it just act as an exte...

Re: Just got an SW-3B. Any advice ?
Agree with the comments above about batteries and antennas. I use an EFHW for 20m and 40m and it's works perfectly. LiFePO4 is the only way to go. I only got my SW-3B a few weeks about and have only used it about a half dozen times. I love it! I'm actually amazed at how well 5W works. A couple weeks...

Re: Frequency Agile Antennas
Yes, I'd say that having at least one other band you can switch to is very important for many reasons, but the most common is that propagation is often vastly different on different bands. My 10-15-20-40m EFHW is more than adequate (I know a random wire with a tuner would give me more options, but I...

Re: Antenna Supports
My experience is limited (I've only done two activations where there wasn't a tree handy, and both of those were a short walk where weight/size didn't matter), but here goes. I used an MFJ-1910 33' mast, but not the entire length. (The SOTAbeams mast would be much better.) In one case, there was a 3...
