Re: How do people organize/store wire antennas
It shouldn't matter, as long as the connection to the tuner or radio is made with the winding not between the wire and radio. That means having uninsulated wire if the winding is at the near end. Having the winding at the far end will have little or no effect.

Re: How do people organize/store wire antennas
Todd The winder is always at the far end of the antenna. Most of the time, I use a telescoping pole. For the times I'm forced to use a tree, I just throw the near end of the wire over from the opposite side of the branch. I really hate using trees in public parks. My wires are light enough to use co...

Re: How do people organize/store wire antennas
I devised a winder frim an old gift card that lets me lock the wire at any length. I put knots at the resonant points of the wire so I can work any band. The points allow the wire to spin off very quickly. The "ears" and notches catch the half- hitch knot I lock the wire with. Loop.jpg win...

Re: RG-174 or RG-316
I don't think you will see much difference when using short runs (around 25' or so). I have heard 316 is tougher, but it's also more expensive. I have a 20' length of 174 that's going on 5 years and about 100 outings. Never had any issues with it. Good luck! so... what's your pick, and why ? Oh I s...

Re: RG-174 or RG-316
The 20' length I mentioned in my reply.
Why? Cause it was the first one I hit when I searched!

Re: EFHW/RW - Attaching wire to balun
You didn't say what transformer you are using, or whether commercial or home made. I went looking at commercial ones online and none of them had a way of anchoring your wire to leave slack on the connection! Some had a eyebolt to hang the transformer from. I guess you could loop your wire thru that....

Re: EFHW/RW - Attaching wire to balun
Hi Roy My antennas are usually 26 or 28 gauge wire. I add 30 to 40 cm of heavier wire at the transformer end to compensate for the rough handling and bending it can be subject to. Remember this adds to your antenna length, so you have to subtract that length from the far end of the wire. I tie a kno...

Re: Mobile Mounting a Yaesu FT818?
Maybe a cupholder mount or seat bracket mount? DX Engineering has quite a selection and Amazon came in up in my search also.
