Re: too good to be true...$210 new IC-705 on eBay
I've a ham friend who shared a link to a similar listing on eBay but for an IC-7300. He shared it during a DX conference several years ago. I think the price was something like $300 shipped for a brand new warrantied unit. The IC-7300 had only been in production for 6 months or so. Even though he's ...

Re: Which radio to take?
So I feel I need to chime in here and encourage you to take the KX2 as well. :) As Brian mentioned, the KX2 is quite flexible in terms of power sources--indeed, one of the most flexible radios I own in that regard. I own an X5105 and owned a G90 in the past. They're great radios, but are 3 or more t...

Re: qrp radio selection
Hi, Dan, You've got a tall order for a short radio there! :) So there are lots of QRP transceivers out there, but in the $500-600, very few with 10+ watts output. Two do come to mind: - The Xiegu G90 is larger and heavier than a Mountain Topper. It does pack a lot for the price, though. Here's my re...

Thanks so much, Mike.
We'll be around for quite a while. Plotting a little trip up the coast to Baie-Comeau as well. Québec is such a beautiful province.

Re: K2
I’ve owned both the Elecraft K2/10 and K2/100. I acquired a K2/10 in 2008 or so and absolutely loved the radio. After I purchased my KX3 in 2013, however, it was rarely used and sat on my shelf as a “back-up” radio. Eventually, I decided to sell it and did so with ease. Within a week of selling it, ...

Re: VY2SW
Thank you so much! I was absolutely chuffed to pass the Canadian exam. :) And, yes, I've had to re-record my CW message memories. That wasn't terribly hard. The hard part? Not sending K4SWL in my "once every 10 minutes" exchanges like, "QSY de VY2SW" and "QRT de VY2CW" ...

Re: SDR Radios
Honestly? You can't go wrong either way. Most modern HF transceivers are based on SDR technology. Some (like the IC-705, TX-500, X6100, etc.) have spectrum displays which do give you an idea of what's "in the neighborhood" as you band scan. Some SDR-based transceivers also make digital mod...

Re: Is the X6100 a keeper?
So I'll admit that I, too, haven't taken the X6100 out as much as I thought I would. I have taken the TX-500, IC-705, and KX2 out much more. I, too, was asking myself the other day if the X6100 is truly a keeper. I have a lot of radios, but I don't keep ones I know I'm simply not going to use much. ...
