Low- or No-RFI Portable Computers

Post by Brian - K3ES »

I am posting on behalf of Jim / AC3B...

Hi, I am on a hunt for a commercially available ready to use laptop-ish computer that will be essentially only used for my radio related hobbies…

Here are my goals:
——————————-
Windows 11 (home) capable
RFI: very little or none
Under $1,000 for all computer parts(screen, keyboard, mouse/trackpad, CPU, etc.)
No gaming or other intense CPU needs…
Portable…with good battery life
Basically only for radio hobbies
- SOTA, POTA, logging (KX2/MTR’s/TR35)
- SDR Shortwave listening (Airspy HF +Discovery SDR receiver needing a computer)

(FYI…I normally use MacBook’s for my other “business” needs…

I am “leaning” towards a new (just released June 7 2022) $800 Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2….

Quad Core 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1135G7 Processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD
10.95” x 8.12” x 0.62” (screen=12.4”)

But…what would you recommend??

Again, a key requirement is that this is really only for radio hobby use, and that it not be an RFI noise maker :-)

Thoughts/recommendations ?
What do you use for your radio hobby computing purposes?

Thank you,
Jim / AC3B

My needs are not as complex as yours, only do digital, nothing else.
Running a pair of Microsoft Surface 3 units, Windows 10.
Use them in the tablet configuration, have both keyboards, but using a mouse works fine.
No issues and been using them for years now.
Have two because I am a belt and suspenders person, but never needed one or the other as backup.
