Re: Portable short wave antenna

GE, Dave. You mention you're looking for a portable antenna for SOTA. What antenna supports (trees or other) are typically available on the summits you frequent? What bands do you want to operate? Are you wanting to buy something ready made or build your own? Do you also want to do other portable op...

Re: Help with Xiegu x6100

Good morning, Doug. Reading the results of your testing, a couple of things come to mind. Are you able to switch off the mains breaker in your electrical panel without causing issues? With the radio on battery power, that would tell you if the problem is internal or external to your home. If the RFI...

Re: Help with Xiegu x6100

Hi, Doug. If you're seeing and hearing interference all across the band, a prime culprit could be radio frequency interference (RFI). Resolution can be as simple as eliminating a faulty wall wart power supply or as complex as applying chokes to all cables coming into your shack. If you're not alread...

Re: Fused DC Power Distribution Boxes

West Mountain Radio's Rigrunners are very nice and would likely serve you well. I use a 6-port version in my shack and an earlier 5-port version with a 14AH LifePO4 that I use for longer portable outings such as Field Day. Both have individually fused PowerPole outlets and are built like a tank. 72,...

Re: Best beginner CW transceiver kit to start with

I don't want to rain on your parade, but I wouldn't recommend a transceiver as your first kit. Start with something considerably easier and develop your skills before attempting a transceiver. That said, QRP Labs has a well regarded series of single and multi-band transceiver kits.

Re: Portable 10M Yagi ?

You might take a look at building or buying a 10m Moxon. There are a number of websites with information and plans, and MFJ sells one that gets a couple of good reviews on eHam.

Re: My Dilemma: I need one radio to rule them all

I've had a similar experience with downsizing following retirement. Faced with half the space I previously had, I acquired a secretary desk with upper and lower cabinets from IKEA. Unfortunately it's now been discontinued, but I've seen similar items at consignment shops and estate sales. It holds m...
