Re: TR-35 issues / No response from WA3RNC

This is great info Frank, thank you! I’ll have some free time at work to make a similar table comparing with my FT-817. The reality of the situation is, I set up in 10 minutes and got 15 qso’s in 20 minutes at the beach yesterday. I tuned to 14063.15 and spotted myself at 14063.00 and nobody had tro...

Re: TR-35 issues / No response from WA3RNC

I mean, I’m not worried about tolerances on RBN, but it is demonstrably and consistently off, on every band, with every antenna, in every location. So yeah I’m a little disturbed by that, but more annoyed at the lack of communication. It’s 2023, answer your emails. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Re: TR-35 issues / No response from WA3RNC

Will do! but I'm not holding my breath at this point. Compensating in the field isn't really a big deal, but it would annoy me if it was an easy fix I could do myself if I only had the info.

TR-35 issues / No response from WA3RNC

A short while after building my TR-35 last month, I started noticing my RBN spots were consistently lower in frequency than where I had my VFO set. I've been able to investigate and confirm a couple of different ways that the VFO display reads ~100-180 Hz "sharp" of the frequency transmitt...

Re: Operating from a beach

My first reaction to your question would be to use a 20m or 17m vertical with a radial into the salt-water. I'm sure there are other things... All great advice! My partner and I will probably be seeking out the least crowded area we can - We'll be nearby to a few nature preserves that might let me ...

Operating from a beach

Hey everyone, I'll be in South Carolina near Hilton Head for the first weekend in August, and there's so many parks to activate! Are there any special considerations for operating on an east coast beach? Optimal times of day or antenna deployments to reach Europe? Is vertical my best bet? I should h...

Re: what is "rock bound" or "rock lock"?

fascinating! I think that explains what I was looking for, thanks! "Rock Locked" was something I saw on a pota self-spot from an activator a few weeks ago. They were in AZ and my brain jumped to ground conditions and it only just occurred to me that it could mean T/Rx is limited by the cry...

what is "rock bound" or "rock lock"?

Second ring for the mic should either shunt to ground or be left open. Should be a-ok.

Re: TR-35 group/forum

I ordered my TR-35 kit yesterday, I'm looking forward to reduced back and shoulder pain, saved expenses on Aleeve. The more I operate CW, the less I want to bother with phone, the less I want to carry a radio that does a bazillion things I only use 1/10 of.
