Re: HF in an HOA
at this point the BBTD would allow him to, at least, put "the nose out" on many bands This sounds like a good design. I used a fan dipole in the attic when I lived in Germany, which did very well - the roof was ceramic tile over wooden beams, so it wasn't too noisy. I like the idea that t...

Re: QRPp outing
Why would you prefer the HB9XBG over an EFHW? The EFHW is resonant on all multiples where the HB9XBG is only resonant on odd multiples (as far as I can tell), but they are the same length (1/2 lambda).

Re: HF in an HOA
A poor antenna is better than no antenna (although my logbook might disagree). The demise of visible external antennas has probably impacted the recruiting of new hams. In my case, I wanted to get a ham license when I was a boy, but I didn't know any hams in my area. My family moved to a new town wh...

Re: EFRW: some notes
Thanks for the links - something to read over the weekend. I think part of the "problem" with EFRW antennas is the name. They're really End Fed Non-resonant Wire antennas - not just random lengths of wire. The biggest downside of a non-resonant antenna is that you need more junk in the ant...

Re: CW and QRP
Brian, Another component of why CW and QRP complement each other is the aspect of building radios. There are a lot of kits out there, from the pixie to (tr)uSDXs and QRP Labs' QCX/QDX/QMX kits, and many others. Sure, there are CW/SSB kits (the (tr)uSDX does SSB) but those kits tend to be more expens...

Re: Need help with TR-35
I wrote to John, WA3RNC to ask him about it. He said he'd prefer to look at himself. Long story short, he said the issue was that my Talencell battery pack has a noisy internal voltage converter that caused the noise. I was very impressed that John looked over my radio and had it back to me in about...

Need help with TR-35
I just finished building my TR-35 and have been testing it out as best I can with the bands. I have two issues that I'm concerned about. 1. The receiver motorboats on 40 and 30m, but is quiet on 20 and 17m. The motorboating subsides when I turn the VFO but immediately resumes when I stop. 2. The rad...

Re: EFHW/RW - Attaching wire to balun
I'm going to try a 29/17 EFRW. My home antenna is a 35.5/17, and works well enough for me. For the choke, I'm using N6ARA's choke design - 12 bifiliar turns on a T50-43. I've got it all built, and I hope to get some time to try it out today.

How does this look? The scale is 1cm for major lines.
