Re: How to attach a wire antenna to a fiberglass pole?

You don't realize how much you need a 3d printer until you have one!

Re: EFRW and VNA

I'll give it a go if we get some clear weather this weekend!

Re: EFRW: some notes

I also have a script I wrote myself, that I can select which bands I care about - e.g. if I'm building an EFRW for a 10-20m rig, I don't care about interactions on 30m. Having said that, I think we make EFRWs seem too complicated with the table of good and bad lengths. For portable use, I think a co...

Re: Need help with TR-35

I think I've got it figured out! The issue wasn't the Talencell battery pack, but rather the buck converter that I added to the power cord. When I replaced it with a plain cable the noise stopped on 40 and 30. Also, replacing the cable improved the sidetone in my QMX (it was very raspy, which I misi...

Andrew (grayhat) wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 5:53 pm you could cut an EFHW, add some wire with a spade connector to make it an EFRW and carry two transformers, a 9:1 and a 49:1
I'd maybe have a disconnect in the EFHW wire at an EFRW-friendly length - 35.5 or 29 feet.

Re: bit of advice please...

I would want to carry two different types of antennas, if possible. One, a wire antenna, either an EFHW (without a tuner) or an EFRW (with a tuner). The other a DS-1, PAC-12, magloop, or some other not-too-tall antenna - if for some reason you can't use the wire antenna.

Re: New K6ARK antenna?

Adam talks about this antenna design at the 13:46 mark in this video:

Other than the rybakov, I haven't seen a 4:1 for an EFRW design before.

That website looks great - lots of good information. Thanks.

Re: New K6ARK antenna?

I built an antenna this weekend with a 4:1 unun connected to a common-mode choke, with a 20 foot radiator and a 7.5 foot radial. I couldn't get it to tune up on 40, but could on 30, 20 and 17. I tried calling CQ using a TR-35 and checking for results on RBN. I was picked up by one station on 20m - n...

Fara-J fabric J-pole for 2m/70cm

I saw a video for this antenna the other day https://vfcomms.com/shop/antenna/fara-j-antenna/ I've been building and using J-poles for over 30 years, and my favorite travel antenna for 2m/70cm was a J-pole made out of 300 Ohm twinlead. This is now my favorite travel antenna for my HT. The price list...
