DIY KH1 - sort of
I just came across Chris', DL1CR, "QMX Carrot" SOTA rig. Inspired by the KH1, he adapted it from a QRP Labs' QMX, adding a tuner, battery & touch CW points in a custom case. It's pretty impressive! https://reflector.sota.org.uk/t/introducing-qmx-carrot/38027 https://groups.io/g/QRPLabs...

TR-45L Skinny cover
Just wanted to share the cover I designed a while back for my TR-45L Skinny. It's a fairly rugged radio, especially with its side handles, but the knobs & display are always a concern. This snaps on and very robustly covers it all. I have Velcro strap slots, but the handle snaps are pretty firm ...

Re: coax type
And just to spell it out, should anyone later be searching: RG-316. RG-174 is similar as far as loss goes, but the 316 outer sheathing is more durable.

Re: Kite lifted antennas
I used a frac tank for a counterpoise/anchor. I like it! One of the better phrases I learned when I moved to the South was, "Run what ya brung!", i.e. use what's at hand. While I've never used a kite for radio, I've thought about it many times over the years, along with surplus weather ba...

Re: Little antenna "experiment"
Nice work. With regards to both EFRW & EFHW antennas, does raising the feedpoint/transformer height above ground make a difference in impedance or efficiency? I'm planning on installing a 132ft EFHW at home, hoping to get the midpoint & far end at 30+ feet. I've been wondering if it will mak...
