Re: EFHW Pole

just an idea

https://shop.spiderbeam.com/en/shop/spi ... 1764#attr=

the above is pretty though and has a 40ft length which is fine to get down to 80m (or even 160m with an inverted L setup), sure it isn't exactly cheap, but may be a good pick imHo

Re: EFHW Pole

A good source for poles is spiderbeam https://www.spiderbeam.com/index.php?cat=c2_Fiberglass%20Poles.html the poles are quite robust and well made, and if you have questions, you may contact them As for the ground stake support, you may consider a fishing rod stake https://www.amazon.com/Fishing-Alu...

3Y0J - Bouvet Island DXpedition

According to the latest news, the expedition will end tomorrow at 0300UTC, but the interesting thing is that another ongoing DXpedition on Crozet Island made contact with the Bouvet one https://www.dx-world.net/ft8ww-crozet-island-2022-23/ I wonder if Crozet is a POTA entity too, if so it would also...

Re: 9:1 Home Brewing

Grr... forgot, I posted the following as a comment on QRPer but it doesn't seem to show up, so I'll repost it here A couple accessories you may consider when operating at low temperatures: A "sack" shaped padded pouch with an elastic band around the opening and a small hole at the bottom; ...

Re: 9:1 Home Brewing

Thanks Andrew. Further details on the antenna build are coming soon, and I will link them here after they are posted. In a sneak peek, I had 3x17 ft ground radials deployed at the feedpoint. Best 73 de Brian - K3ES As for radials, the idea is that they must act as a low impedance return path for cu...

Re: 9:1 Home Brewing

saw your post on QRPer https://qrper.com/2023/02/k3es-puts-a-new-antenna-to-the-test-during-winter-field-day/ nice job :) I'd only add a choke to the coax, that will help a bit, since the coax braid, laying on the ground, isn't exactly a good radiator, better pushing all the RF you can through the a...

Re: 9:1 Home Brewing

I finished my build this month, and used the antenna for Winter Field Day... Er... used Winter Field Day to test the antenna. Particulars are: - 9:1 unun auto-transformer was built on a FT50-43 core, wrapped with 9 turns of tri-filar (3 twisted strands) 24 AWG magnet wire. - I connected a 144 ft ra...

Re: 9:1 Home Brewing

forgot, as for the radiator length, check the link I posted, then decide based on the lowest band of interest and on the type of installation; I mean, if it's for a permanent installation (e.g. at home), then you may consider a longer antenna, if instead the antenna will be used for POTA or the like...

Re: 9:1 Home Brewing

Thanks all! I am going to build a QRP 9:1 using tri-filar winding, and no capacitor. I'm not yet sure about radiator length. All I'm lacking now is a bit of shop time. When I get things together, I will let you know how it works. Best 73 de Brian - K3ES I'll refrain it http://qrper.net/viewtopic.ph...

Re: 9:1 Home Brewing

I found this one being quite good https://vk6ysf.com/unun_9-1_v3.htm my only additional recommendation is to also wind this https://vk6ysf.com/balun_choke_balun_hf_reisert.htm and insert it in the same box, connecting the choke at the output of the 9:1, this will effectively stop the feedline from ...
