Re: HF in an HOA

A poor antenna is better than no antenna (although my logbook might disagree). Well, if the choice is between some "arranged" antenna and no antenna at all, I think most people will go for the first; I'm not saying that the BBTD installed in an attic or around a roof is a "beam"...

Re: QRPp outing

Hi Rick ! A suggestion, if you feel versed to run a little experiment, put it up vertical and connect one or more counterpoise wires with a lenght of 1/16 Lambda connected to the 49:1 "ground" post and laid on ground, in theory the HW won't need it, in practice the wires will improve the r...

HF in an HOA

A paper describing a simple, cheap antenna which is also stealth and will allow to work all HF https://www.qsotoday.com/uploads/2/4/5/0/24502639/kd3cr_presentation_august_expo.pdf sure, it isn't a "beam" it's a compromise antenna, but then if one hasn't the luxury of having plenty of space...

Re: EFRW: some notes

well... the EFRW is not "random" as you already wrote, it's more an "aperiodic" or "travelling wave" kind of antenna, at any rate, the first link I posted, carries some concepts and facts which need to be digested to get a good grip on EFRW, so, if you want, take your t...

EFRW: some notes

Nothing particular, just a pair of links discussing the "random" wire antennas https://f5npv.wordpress.com/endfed-random-wire-efrw-antenna/ https://k8ua.com/2019/10/my-lid-moment-or-how-not-to-deploy-your-random-wire/ the first one is pretty long, but I believe it's worth reading with some...

Squeezing 9dB from a dipole

I've always loved simple antennas and the dipole is one of the most common and simple ones; for such a reason time ago I started investigating about ways to maximize the performances of the dipole and, time ago, found a paper from Jari Perkiömäki (OH6BG) which explains how, using some optimal (yet m...

Re: My new all-purpose antenna system

A nice "antenna combo kit" indeed :D !!

And here's an idea for you, if you add a third wire you may configure the antenna as a "T" and feed it between the vertical wire and a ground stake :)

Strong geomagnetic storm approaching

The NOAA raised an alert for a strong (Class4) geomagnetic storm which will hit Earth between this evening and tomorrow, the storm is currently classified as G4 but given that the multiple flares may sum up, it may reach the G5 level https://spaceweather.com/archive.php?view=1&day=10&month=0...

Re: EFHW/RW - Attaching wire to balun

I'm going to try a 29/17 EFRW. My home antenna is a 35.5/17, and works well enough for me. For the choke, I'm using N6ARA's choke design - 12 bifiliar turns on a T50-43. I've got it all built, and I hope to get some time to try it out today. it all depends from the bands you're interested to cover ...
