Re: Compact Field Kit Bag Suggestion
Hi George- Outfitting your field kit is as much fun as operating out in the field! Have you considered resizing your flight deck board to fit the pack you want to use? My MTR-3b went through many different versions until I finally settled on one. It has been in this version for 5 years now. I can't ...

Re: Selling FT891 to fund a ???
I'll add a vote for the SW-3b also. It's been around for a while and proven itself. I would never buy a radio unless it's been out at least a year. See what problems the early adopters have. How does the company do with customer service, etc. An 8 cell "AA" battery pack will run it. No nee...

My new all-purpose antenna system
I started out just wanting a dipole I could use on any band-40 to 10 meters. I wanted it to be light and pack away small because I get tomy outdoor radio sites by bicycle or foot. I used 2 35' lengths of wire. I built winders out of old gift cards to hold them. The winders have "wings" I c...

Re: Lion or LiPo4 for 12v power
I still haven't made the jump to lithium batteries. My nimh cells don't weigh that much more and I can easily adjust the voltage by adding or subtracting cells. No new charger needed and I can buy alkalines anywhere in a pinch. My current set of batteries just turned 5 years old and still going stro...

This is my favorite reference for random wire antennas: https://www.hamuniverse.com/randomwireantennalengths.html?fbclid=IwAR24uHu1xiO7ScZ-kBA0VG72bMMEgqQJISW7EJtz_kmaDlt8_LNKUVVQdL0 Here's another with basically the same info: https://udel.edu/~mm/ham/randomWire/ Rule of thumb for "random wire...

Re: 9v or 12v for sw-3b
I believe the sw-3b will run anything between 8 and 15 volts. 12 volts shouldn't be a problem.

Charger for nimh cells with 12v input
I've been using an old Radio Shack universal charger to keep my nimh "aa" batteries charged. It has been a real workhorse for at least 15 years. But, it is showing it's age. I want to get a backup charger before this one dies. Do you have any recommedations? It must be able to charge from ...

Re: Diamond HF-20cl as POTA antenna?
I used to use hamsticks on a tripod or groundstake. I used a quarter-wave counterpoise laid out along the ground. It worked ok but running it on the car always worked better. I figured if I needed more than one counterpoise, I may as well set up a regular dipole, since it would take as much space an...

Re: TR-35 issues / No response from WA3RNC
The RBN spots for my mountaintopper never match my dial. Even my crystal-controlled QRPp transmitters don't line up. My old MFJ QRP rigs are way off. One is high on the low part of 40 and low in the high part! Look at the spots on the home page snd you'll see lots of spots that don't end neatly on a...
