Another approach to the EFHW

Post by Andrew (grayhat) »

And one which may fit portable operations ,(SOTA/POTA/...)

I'm referring to the ideas by AA5TB found here

https://www.aa5tb.com/efha.html

which are really good (notice the "tuned" 49:1)

I've used AA5TB's design for years - I don't think the current multiband approach existed when I first started looking for EFHWs.

The plus of his design vs. the more common FTx-43 multiband design is that you can tune it for best SWR for each band. The only downside is that it is a one-band-at-a-time design. I carried wires for each band that I wanted to work.

My original has an SO-239 connector, but I've been thinking about making one (or more) with BNC connectors.

You're right Mike, the advantage of AA5TB approach is that it could be used for a vertical (aluminium) antenna and it will ease "tuning" for the fundamental
