I just threw together a quick kit for an activation at k-6462 on a rainy morning. I was using my QRP-LABS QMX putting out about 3 watts to 20 ft of RG-174 to the AX-1 mounted on a tripod. Rg-174 and counterpoise and key are not in pictures because I started to tear down before remembering to take pictures. Tnx fer letting me share my experience.

How do you like your QMX? Which model did you get?

Since you're running from your car, maybe try an antenna mount right on the car. It will beat any ground plane you can lay out under the tripod by a lot!

A drive-on antenna base and a relatively short (5...9ft) fiberglass telescoping mast to keep the whip above the car may fit well

I only recently received my QMX and I'm very much looking forward to taking it to the field.
Working stations with such a modest setup is always so much fun!
Cheers,
