I would be interested in reading a review of this new radio if anyone has an opimion. I've dabbled in CW for years without actually getting to the point where I am making SOTA/POTA contacts. I see this radio as a sort of training wheel that would let a person copy in his head while still having the screen to keep you going if you get a bit shaky at times. The goal is to eventual outgrow this radio start operating like a normal CW operator.

What do you think? Does this seem like a reasonable plan?

I did order that radio. Maybe I'll write the review if it works for me LOL.

When I first started my CW journey, I used decoder functions to help me improve me copy skills. It did not work for me, and quickly became a crutch that stopped my progress. When I let it go, improvement began immediately. My advice (4 years in):

1. Hunt POTA activators. You can get most of the information from the POTA.app spotting page, so decoding is minimal. Activators want your contact as much as you want theirs, and they will work to help you get it.

2. The question mark is your friend. If you miss something important, send dit-dit-dah-dah-dit-dit.

3. Don't dwell on your shortcomings. Look back at where you were, and celebrate your improving skills.

4. Practice with software that will let you recognize individual characters at high speed (with longer spaces between). Learn the distinct sound of the character, and you can get away from mental translation. Translation will hold you back.

Get on the air to get good. You can do this!
