Introduction and....

Hey Folks-- glad to be joining the conversation DE KA0GZO (Rob). I am just starting a ham radio reboot as I will be retiring in January. I have acquired some basic kit (Xiegu X6100 and a tactical delta) and would like to get started with POTA and eventually get my CW chops back (or better). I am feeling slightly intimidated about POTA protocol, and hoping not to get stomped on with SSB. QRP on CW always used to seem a bit more polite. I suppose its like a lot of things-- one just needs to get started.
Any Thoughts?
Rob

Hi Rob,
Welcome!
A few thoughts to help with your first POTA Activation.
1. Try hunting other activators to get used to the exchange.
2. There are a variety of YouTube channels run by POTA activators. They can let you see (and hear) what to expect.
3. If you have a local radio club, there is a chance a member does POTA activations in your area. Most are willing to take a new activator along.
4. Look on POTA.app for local parks, and find a regular activator. Email and ask if you could observe an activation.
5. Test out your gear in the yard to get used to it, and be sure you have all the gear ready to go, before you hit your first park.
