Re: New K6ARK antenna?

just in case

:D

not a "great antenna" but it works decently and is quite easy to carry/deploy

Re: New K6ARK antenna?

try using a 9:1 followed by a choke, for the radiator size, use this https://k7mem.com/Ant_End_Fed.html#Not_Random_Multi as for the "counterpoise" a 1/16 wave wire at the lowest frequency will be a good starting point, willing to "go vertical" install the radiator as an inverted L

Re: My first magic carpet ride

here' s another idea

the variable inductor ... are two coils, one slides inside the other, the capacitor across the coils is... a copper pipe with coils inserted, you may redraw the circuit if you like ;)

Re: My first magic carpet ride

you may try loading the vertical with a cap hat

Re: My first magic carpet ride

I try to stay away from anything "magic" or based on something which (apparently) violates the know physics laws, that being said, the longer size for a "normal" vertical antenna is around 6.5m (about 21ft), that is about 5/8 Lambda on the 10 meters band, the choice isn't random,...

Re: Squeezing 9dB from a dipole

How did it work for you? Exactly as described, tried that with a 10 meters band dipole and the difference in gain and takeoff angle was definitely perceivable even without running a full blown field measurement, repeated the tests on 6m and 2m bands and got the same results, so confirming that what...

Re: QRPp outing

Verticals means messing with masts and counterpoise wires. That means more work and time. I'm trading some efficiency for convenience and weight. Not in this case, no counterpoise, maybe you'll need to re-read how the antenna is configured; then the "mast" may be a telescoping fishing rod...

Re: HF in an HOA

This sounds like a good design. I used a fan dipole in the attic when I lived in Germany, which did very well - the roof was ceramic tile over wooden beams, so it wasn't too noisy. I like the idea that this antenna has some gain, although I'm sure that varies greatly depending on attic space availa...

Re: HF in an HOA

A poor antenna is better than no antenna (although my logbook might disagree). Well, if the choice is between some "arranged" antenna and no antenna at all, I think most people will go for the first; I'm not saying that the BBTD installed in an attic or around a roof is a "beam"...

KL7MJ wrote: Tue Jul 09, 2024 8:30 pm Why would you prefer the HB9XBG over an EFHW? The EFHW is resonant on all multiples where the HB9XBG is only resonant on odd multiples (as far as I can tell), but they are the same length (1/2 lambda).
check the radiation pattern (and the gain)
