Re: 9v or 12v for sw-3b
I believe the sw-3b will run anything between 8 and 15 volts. 12 volts shouldn't be a problem.

Charger for nimh cells with 12v input
I've been using an old Radio Shack universal charger to keep my nimh "aa" batteries charged. It has been a real workhorse for at least 15 years. But, it is showing it's age. I want to get a backup charger before this one dies. Do you have any recommedations? It must be able to charge from ...

Re: Diamond HF-20cl as POTA antenna?
I used to use hamsticks on a tripod or groundstake. I used a quarter-wave counterpoise laid out along the ground. It worked ok but running it on the car always worked better. I figured if I needed more than one counterpoise, I may as well set up a regular dipole, since it would take as much space an...

Re: TR-35 issues / No response from WA3RNC
The RBN spots for my mountaintopper never match my dial. Even my crystal-controlled QRPp transmitters don't line up. My old MFJ QRP rigs are way off. One is high on the low part of 40 and low in the high part! Look at the spots on the home page snd you'll see lots of spots that don't end neatly on a...

Re: Travel to Europe with KX3 questions
I flew cross country with a person that used an electric wheelchair. There were a number of questions and requirements she needed to negotiate before they would allow her batteries on board. Check with your carrier before just showing up at the boarding gate with your battery. May save some grief! H...

Re: Trapping the EFHW?
So you did lose the resonance on 15 and 10 meters.
Thanks for going thru all the work to find this out, Mike. Your efforts are appreciated and I learned something!

Re: JNC cs-818 tuner
Hi I've been away for a while, so I missed the last part of this conversation. I had the same idea, only using a switched l-match type tuner to place the capacitor eitther in series or shunt to match high or low impedances. And I was gonna wind the antenna in to I think 57' for the random wire lengt...

Re: Trapping the EFHW?
Hi Mike I went thru a ton of stuff online and in my stash of info here, and I can't find anything about using a trap and still having the multiple-halfwave advantage of basic EFHW. Even for a basic 40-30-20m using a trap for 30 meters also had a trap for 20m. I'm not saying it's impossible, but if i...

Re: JNC cs-818 tuner
Hi Mark- A lot of auto tuners, and internal tuners in modern radios are not able to tune much more than a 3:1 SWR. Maybe try a 9:1 transformer between the antenna and tuner: http://www.earchi.org/proj_homebrew.html This is not the same as a 49:1 transformer for end fed half wave antennas. Dont get t...

Re: what is "rock bound" or "rock lock"?
Ah the memories! I made a crystal holder for my dad back in 4th grade. Just an 8" 1x2 with his call woodburned on the front and holes drilled in the top to plug your crystals in. Novice class operators were required to use crystals back in the bad old days. My Heathkit HW-7 has a socket right o...
